For years The TMJ Association has kept the needs of the TMJ patients on the radar screen of Congress. We want the best science this country has to offer for these devastating conditions and we are fortunate to have the support of the members of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Services Appropriations Subcommittee, which is responsible for funding the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Searching and Supporting the TMJA
What if the TMJA earned a donation every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause?
Well, now it can!

Chronic Pain Conditions May be Invisible…but You’re Not!
Help Promote Awareness of TMJ disorders
So many times we've heard you say, "If only I had my head in a bandage, scars, something that would let people know that I'm in pain! I look perfectly normal so nobody believes I live every day with this pain." Well, here are several opportunities to become involved with others with invisible disabilities and express how it feels to be a TMJ patient who looks perfectly normal with all that it encompasses—from your friends not understanding the continuous pain, your physicians not understanding or believing, and even your family members who may think you are simply malingering. I'm sure you have more examples from your life experience. Being involved in these campaigns is not just good for getting things off your chest, but it helps promote awareness about TMJ disorders.

Licking TMJ by Promoting Awareness
We’d like to share M.J.’s story and his efforts to help raise awareness of TMJ disorders with you.
“I met my friend James on Labor Day and learned that he had TMJ, but never thought to really just sit down and read more about it and what caused it, etc. Then I found out he would/might have to have surgery and decided to step up to home plate and really started to read and understand more about TMJ and why there is not a cure or really how to fix it.
In less than 72 hours after learning how badly my friend suffered from TMJ, I have learned much about it and now have others asking me about it and even sending money into the foundation, so we can help The TMJ Association continue working towards promoting awareness about it and trying to help find a cure and safe and effective treatments.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. I myself have tried it and it works quickly.
Please help me raise my goal in the next 24 months to help my friend, James and the other 35 million people with TMJ out there. You never know you might just wake up with TMJ or your kids might just have it. Why not start somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! God Bless your support and family.”

You can view
M.J.’s Firstgiving page here. In addition to creating a fundraising page, M.J. is involved in organizing additional fundraising activities – a clothing collection,
The James Elliot Collection, as well as a local ice cream fundraiser this fall at Scoops on McCulloch Blvd. in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. A portion of the proceeds from these activities will be donated to The TMJ Association. We are grateful to M.J. and his friends for helping to increase awareness of TMJ disorders.

Support the TMJA in the Fall Campaign
It’s that time of year again. September marks the beginning of the Government’s Combined Federal Campaign appeal. If you are a government employee, please designate The TMJ Association in your 2011 as your charity. The TMJA’s CFC# is 12102.
http://www.hmr.org/searchset.asp?Action=SEA
If you’re not a federal employee, please share this information with those who are. We all know at least one federal worker - our postal carrier. Also, you may have family members or friends serving in the military who would jump at the opportunity to support your charity.
State employees can contribute through the State Employee Contribution Campaign. Each state has its own eligibility requirements and we currently qualify and participate in the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Washington and Wisconsin. State employees simply need to write in The TMJ Association.
United Way and other non-profit corporate donor programs are a great way to show your support and will soon be underway. Simply write in The TMJ Association on your donor form.
The TMJ Association continues to strive for its ultimate goal: the development of universal standards for safe, effective, affordable, science-based diagnostics, treatments, and prevention of temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders. We understand that patient education, advocacy, and the provision of accessible support systems are central to achieving that goal.
